Fact Check: Dustin Marshall claims to have been instrumental in opening 2 schools in Boston and Chic
Dustin Marshall claims to have been instrumental in opening 2 schools in Boston and Chicago.
One of the schools Marshall often mentions when he makes this claim is the Boston Renaissance Charter School (BRCS) which has been in existence since 1995 before Marshall even started college in Pennsylvania. It is therefore highly doubtful that he helped to start this school.
BRCS, one of the largest charter schools in Boston, has been put on academic probation for 5 of the past 10 years due to poor academic scores. BRCS is also connected to Edison Schools, a highly controversial large for-profit operator of charter schools.
The other school Marshall mentions is Rowe Elementary in Chicago – yet another charter school – named after the former CEO of Exelon Corporation. Although Marshall claims to have helped start the school, the truth is that over half of Bain's Chicago office helped to open this school in 2009. Take a look for yourself at how this school ranks: https://www.schooldigger.com/go/IL/schools/0993006142/school.aspx
Shortly after helping to open Rowe, Bain was a key supporter and partner in Chicago's Renaissance 2010 which was a corporate education reform initiative by the mayor to close eighty traditional public schools and open 100 charter schools. All of the data has shown that Chicago's adoption of the corporate education reform model has destroyed the traditional neighborhood public schools at the expense of Chicago's students.
I don't want to see the same thing happen to the children of Dallas.
