Questions for Dustin Marshall

Dustin Marshall wants to remain the Dallas ISD District 2 Trustee for the next three years but lately he has seemed more interested in false attacks than he does in being honest about his record as Trustee. I think it's about time that we ask him some hard questions: 1. Why do you, someone who has chosen to send your children to private school instead of your neighborhood DISD school, want to make decisions for the children and families of DISD? 2. During the January 26 board meeting, when urged by your fellow Trustees to stand against vouchers, why did you not respond? If, as you say, your vote was solely based on the fact that you weren't ready to oppose the A-F grading system, why didn't

Endorsement by the Network for Public Education

Thank you to the Network for Public Education for their endorsement of our campaign! Carol Burris shared the below in a recent email to NPE supporters: NPE Action is proud to give its endorsement to Lori Kirkpatrick, candidate for the Dallas Independent School District, District 2. Unlike her opponent who sends his children to private school, Lori is a proud public school parent. When we asked her why she is running, Lori said the following, “I’m running for the preservation and reinvigoration of public education. I want every child in my community regardless of zip code, economic disadvantage or learning difference to have an equal and quality educational opportunity.”

Our Volunteers

I will be the first one to say that this campaign for public education would not be where it is today without the help of the grass-root volunteers who have joined me! They have worked tirelessly to educate the community about our campaign and this election, and their commitment and passion for making our school district better for our children is inspiring! Can you join them? Sign up for one of our canvassing shifts, phone banking, working to promote our campaign near Early Voting locations, or driving someone to vote. These are all critical efforts that will ultimately make a difference in the future of Dallas ISD. Click here to sign up or view additional opportunities to volunteer.

Standing with School Librarians

With so much data to support the critical role a librarian plays in the direct education of students, I believe it is unacceptable that our district has allowed 11 Dallas ISD schools to lose their librarians because of budget cuts. As your District 2 Trustee, I would support school librarians knowing the value they bring to our schools and our students. When necessary, I would look for budget cuts on the administrative side rather than the instructional side of our District, so that we may continue to support the direct education of our children. Dustin Marshall & Vouchers

When my opponent, Dustin Marshall, says he does not support vouchers, there is an unedited video record of his vote on the DISD website that I encourage you to review (beginning at around one minute into this section of the unedited video). I have provided a summary below. On January 26, 2017, the Board was voting on the Resolution of Legislative Priorities for Region 10 School Districts which included: repealing the A-F grading system opposition to vouchers or Education Savings Grants, and an increase in funding for Texas’ public schools. My opponent stated clearly that he was voting against the resolution, and stated his reason behind that decision was that he believed in the A-F grading s

The Truth About the Education Reform Movement and Why I Don't Support It

My Dallas ISD District 2 opponent is running as a proud supporter of Education Reform. While there was a point that I, too, liked the sound of "reforming" education because I thought it simply meant "improving" education, I've learned what the Education Reform movement really is about. It is a four-step process: 1. The first step is defunding public education, which the state of Texas did in 2011. 2. Their next step is to enact an A-F school accountability system, which Texas enacted in 2015 and will go into effect as of the 2017-18 school year. 3. Then Reform leaders will work to pass a voucher program. (Fortunately, this was recently knocked down by the Texas State House, but I know that

Endorsement by Ken Zornes, Former DISD President

"I support Lori because I recognize that she stands whole heartily with our DISD public education system. Never in the history of DISD has a trustee voted against a public education resolution opposing vouchers until the current District 2 Trustee. That is unacceptable for our children. District 2 must elect a Trustee who is willing and able to strengthen the DISD system and I am confident Lori is the best candidate for that job." — Ken Zornes, former DISD Trustee (1999-2005) and DISD President (2001-2002) Thank you to Ken Zornes for his endorsement of our campaign for public education! Learn more about Zornes' stance on the voucher system in his recent commentary in the Dallas Morning News
